In a significant step towards enhancing disaster preparedness, the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) through the South Cagayan District (SCD) Disaster Risk Reduction and Management team under the BEA Disaster Management Office of the United Methodist Church has provided Barangay Lapi, Peñablanca Cagayan with essential DRRM materials and first aid kits last September 04, 2024. This initiative aims to equip the community with the necessary tools to effectively respond to emergencies and natural disasters.
The distribution event, held at the Barangay Hall, saw active participation from local officials and some residents. Before this distribution, the SCD DRRM team also conducted Community Risk Assessment and Community-based contingency planning which are vital tools that empower barangays to effectively manage and mitigate the impacts of disasters.
Barangay Captain Martin Tumanguil expressed gratitude, stating, “These materials will greatly enhance our ability to respond to emergencies and ensure the safety of our residents. We are thankful to UMCOR through SCD DRRM for their support and commitment to our community’s well-being.”
This initiative is part of SCD DRRM’s ongoing efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness at the grassroots level, ensuring that communities like Barangay Lapi are better equipped to handle unforeseen events.
To our Lord Jesus Christ be all the glory!
